1. What is the difference between Sports Therapy, Physiotherapy and Sports Massage?
Although there is a considerable overlap; sports therapists mainly treat those with MSK (musculoskeletal) conditions; usually those that involve muscles, ligaments, tendons, nerves and joints/vertebra. Physiotherapists; whilst often looking at MSK conditions also look into other bodily conditions involving respiratory and cardiovascular conditions or women's pelvic health for example. Both use hands on techniques alongside rehabilitation exercise programmes to treat patients conditions. Both aim to help reduce pain and restore movement - getting the patient back to full potential. Physiotherapists tend to work within the NHS/hospital settings and private practices whilst sports therapists can be found within sporting environments and private clinics.
Whilst sports therapists and physiotherapists require a university degree (BSc); sports massage therapists require a different quaification not aquired in university. Usually a diploma with a recognised organisation. Sports massage therapists work on soft tissue with a variety of techniques to help reduce pain, assist injury recovery and often benefits those regularly engaging in physical activity.
2. What do i wear to my appointment?
It all depends on the area being looked at; however generally for both men and women a pair of shorts that can be rolled up if necessary, with a thin crop/vest which most likely will be removed if looking at upper body/back etc. Women would benefit from wearing a bra which undoes at the back - which can make accessing the back easier when laying prone. The patient will be made to feel at ease throughout their appointment and towels will be used to maintain privacy. Avoid wearing jeans, belts and jewellery to your appointment. Please make sure you are wearing appropriate underwear to your appointment (Avoid see through items/very loose fitting boxers).
3. Where are you based and is there parking available?
Our clinic is based at Hedsor Golf Course in Wooburn Green, South Buckinghamshire. Please see Contact/Location section on our home page for full address details. Its an idyllic countryside location nestled between farm land with ample FREE parking on site.
4. Do we accept children as patients?
Unfortunately at this moment we do not treat under 16's. Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult on their first session; and given full consent for unsupervised follow ups if preferred.
5. Is there a cancellation policy?
Yes - Our cancellation policy requires anyone who needs to cancel or postpone their appointments to do so prior to 24 hours of their appointment time. This allows us time to fill your spot. Anyone who cancels within 12 hours of their appointment time will be charged in full. If you cancel a session more than once consecutively within the 24 hour window then unfortunately you will no longer be able to book an appointment with us. Thank you for understanding.
6. Is there CCTV on site at the clinic?
We have a security camera within the premises for safety purposes; however there are no cameras inside the treatment rooms to maintain patient privacy.
7. Is there disabled access?
Unfortunately the clinic is up a flight of stairs and we currently do not have lift access. However if you require an appointment and are unable to climb a flight of stairs we do also offer home visits which may be more suitable.
8. Will i need to fill out a form during my first session?
All patients visiting us for the first time will need to fill out a patient intake form. This gives us the necessary information needed to proceed. It will include personal details, medical history, information on current lifestyle and the reason for your visit followed by consent/authorisation. These forms are confidential and stored for 3 years before being destroyed. A new form will need to be filled out for any returning patient whereby these details may have changed. This form is usually filled out during the first 5 minutes of your initial appointment as it allows the therapist to discuss any queries the patient may have whilst filling out the form; however if you'd prefer to fill out this form prior to your session we can send it over electronically via email.
9. How long are your appointments?
An initial appointment is 60 minutes long. The patient then has the option of 60/45/30 minute follow up sessions. The therapist will discuss what they recommend; but ultimately this is your preference. Follow up sessions of 30 minutes are only available at the clinic. Home visits are available for 45/60 minute appointments. 90 minute sessions can be available upon request.
